LAGRANGE – The score is important, but Troup head coach Tanner Glisson is looking at the bigger picture.

Glisson is focused on making sure his team improves in every phase of the game on a week-to-week basis, no matter the result of the previous game.

“We can identify a lot easier than the people in the stands are we playing well, are we getting better,” Glisson said. “The scoreboard means a lot, but you can trick yourself by looking at numbers. We want to see what we’re doing execution-wise.”

Today, Troup will look to keep moving forward when it takes on the Kendrick Cherokees in a Week 2 game.

Troup and Kendrick, which lost to Northside-Columbus in its season opener, will play at 11 a.m. at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.

It will be the first of four games at the stadium.

Columbus and Jordan will play at 2 p.m., Shaw and Upson-Lee will meet at 5 p.m., and Hardaway and Harris County will square off at 8 p.m.

Last week, Troup rallied to beat Hardaway 31-28 in an offensive slug-fest.

Troup’s offense, which figures to be a strength of the team, was as good as advertised.

Senior quarterback Montez Crowe set a school, single-game record with 415 yards and three touchdown passes, two to Kobe Hudson, and one to Jamari Thrash.

Hardaway’s offense also had a productive day, although Troup’s defense did make a key stop late in the fourth quarter that helped preserve the win.

Troup will be on the road again against Bowdon on Sept. 1 before hosting Lamar County on Sept. 7.

Troup begins its Region 5-AAAA schedule on Sept. 22 at Chapel Hill.

Callaway was off this week, and it will be at home against defending Alabama state-champion Handley on Friday.
