LAGRANGE – It was a winning debut for the LaGrange Academy Warriors.

Facing visiting Killian Hills on Friday, LaGrange Academy’s boys’ soccer team broke open a close match in the second half on the way to a 4-1 home victory.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Killian Hills controlled the pace early in the second half, and it notched a goal to deadlock the score.

The Warriors took control from there, though, finishing the match with three unanswered goals to capture the win.

“We adjusted,” LaGrange Academy coach Zac Knight said. “They had a strong player, a key guy, and that’s all they were trying to do was get it to him. We marked him, and tried to hold our positions.”

John Turton and Jaime Fernandez each scored a pair of goals to lead the Warriors.

“This was the first time we got to get out there with 11 as a team and see what we could do,” Knight said. “I was pleased.

“We don’t have a lot of numbers, but we’ve got a lot to work toward.”

In the first half, it was Turton finding the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Fernandez scored twice in the second half while Turton added another goal.

“They did good. I’m very proud of them,” Knight said.

LaGrange Academy will be back home today against rival Oak Mountain, with the match set to begin at 5 p.m.

That will be the Warriors’ only match this week.
