Antonio Marques Sharpe, 40, was arrested for allegedly stealing an ATV valued $8,000 Tuesday night. According to a press release from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the ATV owner had previously reported it stolen.

Sharpe told police he started the vehicle by manipulating its electrical wiring, according to the police report.

Sgt. Stewart Smith said ATV thefts have been a problem in Troup County.

“It’s honestly something that does happen [here]. People see them sitting in yards or in driveways, and some people leave their keys in them,” Smith said. “I don’t think that was the case in this story. [Sharpe] in one way or another, hotwired the vehicle and took off with it.”

According to the arrest report, the ATV was returned to its owner. Sharpe’s bond is set at $16,000.
