LAGRANGE – While the Callaway Cavaliers and LaGrange Grangers are hoping to maintain the status quo, the LaGrange Grangers are looking for a breakthrough.

All three of those teams, along with the Lafayette Christian School Cougars, will be in action this week as the prep football season rolls along.

Callaway and Troup both remained unbeaten with wins last week, while LaGrange fell to 0-3

with a home loss.

Lafayette Christian is also seeking its first win after falling to 0-3 with a 52-16 home setback to Hearts Academy.

Callaway is 2-0 after a dominant 35-0 victory over Handley in last week’s highly-anticipated matchup.

Handley won the Class AAAA state title in Alabama last year, and it came into this season ranked first.

Next up for Callaway is Friday’s home game against the Columbus Blue Devils.

Columbus (1-1) opened the season with a 47-33 victory over Jordan before losing to Upson-Lee 43-19 last week.

“The kids have worked hard, and we’ve got to continue to progress each week,” Callaway head coach Pete Wiggins said. “We’ve got a lot of football teams left to play.”

Troup, which thumped Bowdon 35-6 last week to improve to 3-0, is set to play its second Thursday game of the season.

The first of those Thursday games was in the season opener, with Troup outlasting Hardaway 31-28.

The second Thursday game is this week, and Troup will host Lamar County.

Lamar County is 0-2 following a 20-14 loss to Northeast-Macon, and a 38-23 setback to Jackson.

Troup has won 11 of its past 12 regular-season games, with the only loss during that stretch coming against Cartersville in the 2016 regular-season finale.

Troup has beaten Hardaway, Kendrick and Bowdon to begin this season.

“You can’t get any better than that, and I think it’s been a while since Troup has been 3-0,” Troup head coach Tanner Glisson said. “It’s been good to us, but we’re not done yet. We’ll try to continue to get better.”

LaGrange will play its first regular-season game away from Callaway Stadium this week. LaGrange’s first three games were against Callaway, Villa Rica and Griffin, and it lost all three of them.

LaGrange fell to 0-3 with last week’s 31-0 loss to Griffin.

East Coweta is 1-1 after losing to Lovejoy 41-28 and beating Jackson 42-27.

Lafayette Christian will be at home for the third straight week, and Friday’s opponent is Crisp Academy.
