Judith “Judy” Mullinax Boggus, loving wife, mother, grandmother and civic leader passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Hospice LaGrange.

A native of LaGrange, she graduated from LaGrange High School and West Georgia College where she served as a cheerleader for the basketball team. Because of her husband’s work, Judy and family moved from LaGrange for a period of 25 years living in Charleston, SC; Gainesville, GA; and Marietta, GA.

While in Marietta, she worked as a travel consultant with Marietta Travel Agency. It was here that she developed an interest in, and a passion for, personal travel. She and Sonny were able to visit 46 countries worldwide and most of the states in the USA.

Upon retirement, Judy and Sonny returned to LaGrange in the year 2000 where she immediately immersed herself in civic activities, stating that “LaGrange had given much to her during her life and it was time for her to give back”.

Her civic contributions include service as the City of LaGrange appointee to the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority for 14 years, membership on the Board of Directors of the LaGrange Symphony where she was awarded life membership on the Board, membership in the LaGrange Symphony Guild participating in fund-raising events for the youth orchestra, membership on the Board of Directors of the LaGrange Art Museum, and membership on the Board of Directors of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

She was instrumental in fund-raising and securement of a grant from the State of Georgia to establish the Troup County History Museum and was a member of the LaGrange College Leadership Council.

Judy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange and served as a Deacon and elected Elder.  Her other services for the Church included the Chancel Flower guild, Prospective Member Council and Stewardship Committee.

Perhaps her proudest accomplishment was her service as founding co-chairperson of the LaGrange College 3D Journey Program. The program was designed to be instrumental in enhancing the relationship between the college and the community through faculty lectures and associated travel opportunities.

She received an Honorary Alumnus Award from the college in 2016 in recognition of her service, advocacy, and support.

The LaGrange Rotary Club named her a Walter Y. Murphy Fellow in 2017 with a donation to the scholarship fund for LaGrange College students in recognition of her service to the community.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Solon “Sonny” H. Boggus, Jr.; her children and grandchildren: Catherine Boggus Schirra (John) of LaGrange and Sydney; Steven Bradley Boggus (Amy) of Killen, AL and Charley, Ben, and Kate; Brannon Scott Boggus (Leize) of Alpharetta and Jack, Gracie, Olivia, and Max.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Gainey Mullinax and Lucille Cage Mullinax, and her sister, Linda Mullinax Underwood.

A service celebrating the life of Judy Boggus will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church following a private service. A visitation will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, those so desiring may contribute to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, West Georgia Hospice, or a favorite charity in memory of Judy Boggus.
