HOGANSVILLE – Despite a brilliant pitching performance by Oeisha Jenkins, the Callaway Lady Cavaliers lost to Temple 4-3 on Thursday to fall to 0-3 in Region 5-AA.

Jenkins pitched a seven-inning one-hitter, and all four of the runs she allowed were unearned.

After the second inning, Jenkins didn’t allow a base runner.

“She did an unbelievable job on the mound today,” Callaway coach Ashley Summerlin said.

Temple scored three runs in the first inning to take the lead, and it added another run in the second inning.

Callaway scored runs in the first, third and sixth innings.

In the first inning, Kelly Carlisle double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jenkins.

In the third inning, Leijorey Sanders reached on a hit and scored on an RBI hit by Jasmine Dukes.

In the sixth inning, Kailea Speer walked with the bases loaded to drive in Callaway’s third and final run.

Callaway left the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

“They fought,” Summerlin said. “They stayed in the game, they stayed up, we just couldn’t get the big hit to have that big inning.”

Summerlin said difficult first innings have been costly.

“The first inning’s killing us right now,” he said. “When we get out of the first inning, we usually end up playing pretty good.”
