The Troup County School System announced Saturday that it will close schools Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12, due to the pending impact of Hurricane Irma. 

The hurricane is currently at category 3 and is expected to hit south Florida by Sunday morning. Current forecasts show the storm making its way into Georgia by Tuesday.

By that point, the storm will be far weaker than when it hits Florida, but several inches of rain and heavy rain are forecasted for LaGrange.

The Troup County School System’s maintenance and custodial staff will report both days to assist with clean-up efforts at the schools, according to the press release the school system sent out Saturday.
