The Troup County Board of Realtors is holding its annual barbecue fundraiser Friday to benefit West Georgia’s Hospice Camp Dogwood.

Association Executive Director Mandy Brown said they hold the fundraiser every year to give to different local. They previously raised money to benefit Camp Viola, Pineland Sheriff’s Camp and the Discovery Cottage at Lafayette Christian School.

Brown said the board gives back because it is part of its mission statement.

“One of our missions is to help the community and give back to the community because they give back to the realtors and this I just one of the small ways that we can do that,” Brown said.

All of the money raised will directly benefit the camp, she said.

“All the net proceeds go to the beneficiary,” she said. “Because it’s a free camp, they don’t charge the family. This pretty much helps cover that.”

Camp Dogwood is an overnight grief camp for children that was created by West Georgia Hospice in 1997. It is held annually at Pineland Sheriff’s Camp, according to the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center website.

Brown said the board usually raises over $2,000 through its fundraiser.

“We usually raise over $2,000 every time,” she said. “We sold close to 600 tickets this year.”

In addition to selling tickets, Brown said the board also has enough food for anyone who wants to come without a ticket.

“We pre-sell tickets, but we also have enough plates to handle walk-ups,” she said. “We invite everybody. We’ll have plenty of food there, so if people didn’t buy tickets they can still feel free to come out and get a plate.”

The board is selling tickets for $8 and people can call for them at (706) 884-2600. Pick-up is at the Walmart parking lot on New Franklin Road from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
