Today from 5 to 7 p.m. the LaGrange Memorial Library will host an opening reception of a unique photo exhibit.

Love Crosses Borders is a collaborative effort between Casa Alterna and Henry Jacobs that honors LaGrange’s unofficial sister city, La Libertad, Guatemala. This reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.

For over a decade, men, women and children have left these Central American highlands — their community, culture and coffee fields — to put down roots in U.S. communities, particularly in LaGrange. These images, taken on both sides of the border, offer an intimate look at a joyful and resilient community that enriches both La Libertad and LaGrange.

Along with the photos, a short documentary film about the project will be shown. Afterwards, exhibit co-creators Anton Flores-Maisonet of Casa Alterna and local photographer Henry Jacobs, will talk briefly about the project and answer questions.

The reception will also include authentic tamales from this region of Guatemala and local residents from La Libertad will be on hand as well.

In celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month the exhibit will remain on display at the public library through October 15.

LaGrange Memorial Library is located at 115 Alford Street in LaGrange. Open hours: Monday-Friday, 9 am-5pm; Saturday, 10am-5pm; Closed Sunday.
