Bridge to close for repairs

Troup County’s contractor Tidwell Construction Company has scheduled the road closure of Stewart Road between 560 Stewart Road and 714 Stewart Road for Sept. 25 in order to facilitate their replacement of the bridge over Long Cane Creek.

The road closure associated with the bridge replacement is expected to last approximately three months. A complete detour plan with all appropriate signs will be implemented, though the exact route has not been announced at this time. Message signs have been installed to inform local drivers of the road closure date.

Bridges on Hunt Road and Mountville Hogansville Road are also slated to be closed for repair in the near future.

“All of those (bridges) have load ratings that are less than adequate for traffic,” County Engineer James Emery said.

Emery said that the bridges are not unsafe at this time, but the repairs are necessary to keep the bridges safe. Troup County prioritizes bridge repairs based on conditions, sufficiency ratings and posted weights.

As with all road construction, motorists are advised to use extra caution in work zones.  Slow down, stay alert, pay attention and obey all work zone, advisory signs.

These bridge repairs were funded through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
