Ethelene Ellen (Eleanor) Ridley Chivers

Mrs. Ethelene Ellen (Eleanor) Ridley Chivers was born on May 23, 1944, in Clem (Carroll County) Georgia to Luther and Amy Ridley.

On Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, she peacefully transitioned from this life to her Eternal Spiritual Life at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.

At an early age, she gave her life to Christ.  Ethelene was a member of the Mt. Lowell Baptist Church. Later, she joined the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia. “Peaches”, which was her childhood nickname, was a 1961 graduate of Carver High School in Carrollton, Georgia. There she was a cheerleader and member of the Carver High School Marching band.

On Oct. 18, 1963, Ethelene married Charlie Marvin Chivers, the true love of her life. To this union, three lovely daughters, Bethsheba, Melissa, and Rasheeta, also affectionately known as Charlie’s Angels, were born.

In 1972, her husband was called into the ministry. She faithfully stood by his side during his pastorage of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Carrollton, Georgia, Arbor Grove Baptist Church, LaGrange, Georgia and Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Franklin, Georgia. They would eventually become founders of Faith Temple Church of Deliverance in LaGrange, Georgia. They have served fulltime in this ministry for 43 years where they were elevated to Apostle and Elect Lady Chivers.

Ethelene was employed by Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia where she served as the managing supervisor of Sterile Processing for 35 years. She retired in 2000 when her health began to decline.

Elect Lady Chivers, also affectionately known as “MeMe” to many, leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband and caregiver of 54 years, Apostle Charlie M. Chivers; three daughters, Bethsheba(Willie) Gilbert of LaGrange, Georgia, Melissa (Erick Clemonts) Chivers of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rasheeta (Efram) Jennings of LaGrange, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Elydia Gilbert, Micah (Riviera) Gilbert, Jamauri Gilbert, Jalyn Chivers-Burks, Angel Jennings, DreCorious Jennings, Camron Clemonts and ChiKaiya Clemonts; one great-grandchild, Uriah Gilbert; two sisters, Christine Wilson, of Cleveland, Ohio and Lorene Mastin, of Berea, Ohio; one brother, Luther C. Rildey, of Berea, Ohio; four sisters-in-law, Mary Crowder, Mable Allen, and Emma Jane(James) North, all of Carrollton, Georgia, and Bonnell Cooley, of Dunfries, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Gregory (Sherita) Cooley, of Carrollton, Georgia and FreGodfrey (Rhonda) Cooley, of Radcliffe, Kentucky;  seven “special” grandchildren: Chaise Clemonts, Lauriella Wray, Caleigh Clemonts, Cayden Clemonts, Calynn Clemonts,  Jazai Dunn and Kenzlee Dunn; one special niece, Theresa Farris Buchanan, of Carrollton, Georgia; three “special” daughters: Carol Coleman, Wanda Sampson, and Amelia Lovett-Heard; special friends, Virginia Purnell, Tammy Winters, Mary Foster, and her beloved Armor Bearer, Evangelist Evelina McDonald, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the members of her beloved Faith Temple Church of Deliverance ministry.

She is preceded in death by both her father and mother, beloved sister Jean Farris, mother-in-law, Evangelist Emma Lou Cooley, and best and cherished friends, Gwendolyn “Neet” Stegall, Lucille Brewer and Shirley Lockhart.

The service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Temple Church of Deliverance, LaGrange, Georgia. Assistant Pastor Mildred T. Jackson will officiate.
