When Callaway and Haralson County were in the same region, they routinely played close, hard-fought games.

They’re not in the same region any longer, but their penchant for playing thrilling games hasn’t changed.

The two teams faced off on Wednesday afternoon, and it was Haralson scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 7-6 victory.

“We played a really good game,” Callaway coach Ashley Summerlin said. “We hit the ball, but we made some base-running mistakes that ultimately cost us the game.”

Kelly Carlisle had two hits for Callaway, Skylar Rice had a two-run double, and Oeisha Jenkins and Kailea Speer each had RBIs.

Callaway will return to its Region 5-AA schedule on Tuesday with a game at Lamar County.

“We did some things well. We just came up short,” Summerlin said. “We’re still moving forward. I like where our team is going.”
