Man given prop money in exchange for laptop

A man was allegedly given prop money after he sold his $500 Apple MacBook Air to another person outside the Walmart on New Franklin Road Thursday night. The man told police he traveled from Atlanta to Walmart to meet the buyer after selling the laptop on a website called OfferUp. After showing the other man the laptop was still functional, he was given a folded stack of money. The man said after he opened the money and saw it had ‘Motion Picture Use Only’ marked on the bills, the other person had already left.

Phone scam impersonates officer

A woman allegedly received scam text messages claiming to be an officer from the LaGrange Police Department Thursday around 1:30 p.m. According to the police report, the woman received texts from “officer Brittney” telling her she had a family member with an arrest warrant. The woman said when she tried to call the number back, it would go to a voicemail app. There is no Officer Brittney at the LPD.
