Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library kicks off its Author Talk series October 3.

The season’s first talk features John M. Williams, who recently retired from LaGrange College, where he taught English for 26 years. He will talk about his work, ‘’Village People: Sketches Of Auburn,’’ a memoir written in the form of essays about the people and places that made the greatest impact on him as a young man. Williams, who grew up in Auburn, Alabama, takes readers to a simpler time and provides a snapshot of the place called “The Loveliest Village on the Plains.”

His talk originally was scheduled for September 12, but it was postponed when the library closed due to Tropical Storm Irma.

The season’s other events include:

— Tuesday, November 14, Lee St. John, author of the ‘’She’s A Keeper’’ series;

— Tuesday, January 16, African-American Celebration;

— Sunday, February 11, 2 to 4 p.m., A Taste of Story Telling;

— Tuesday, February 27, storyteller Kevin Kling;

— Tuesday, March 13, Michael Bishop, author of ‘’Other Arms Reach Out To Me: Georgia Stories,’’ and

— Tuesday, April 10, Friends of Library annual meeting with keynote speaker Trudy Nan Boyce, author ‘’Out Of The Blues,’’ ‘’Old Bones’’ and, to be released in February, ‘’The Policeman’s Daughter.’’

All programs are at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted and will be at the library at 115 Ashford St. All events are free and open to the public.
