LAGRANGE – It’s a championship rematch.

In 2015, the Lafayette Christian School Cougars capped the best season in school history with a 41-30 victory over Central Christian in the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association eight-man championship game.

The Cougars had made two straight trips to the state semifinals before breaking through that year.

Tonight, those same two teams will be meeting once again, and while a state championship won’t be on the line, it’ll still be an important game.

Lafayette Christian fell to 0-5 with a 46-12 loss to CrossPointe Christian Academy on Sept. 15, and it didn’t play last week, giving the team plenty of time to prepare for today’s region game.

If the Cougars are going to make it to the GICAA state playoffs, it’s a game they most likely have to win.

Lafayette Christian and Central Christian both bring 0-2 region records into the game, so both teams likely need to win if they want to make it to the state playoffs.

While most of the Lafayette Christian players who were on the field for the state-championship game have left, the quarterback of that team is still at the school.

Landon Whitley was a freshman when he helped the Cougars win the state title in 2015, and he has been the team’s top offensive play-maker this season.

In the loss to CrossPointe Christian, Whitley had a pair of touchdown runs.

The previous week in a loss to Crisp Academy, Whitley had 22 carries for 174 yards, and he completed 6-of-12 passes for 134 yards with two touchdowns.

Jacob Lueken has had a strong season running the ball, and Cason Firth and Nathan Hudson both had scoring catches against Crisp .
