Now is the time to get tested

On Saturday, it was inspiring to see the Troup County community come together for the Paint the Town Pink/Hope For a Day event at Lafayette Square.

There’s nothing quite like seeing hundreds of people wearing pink to get a point across. The event is put on by many local people and organizations, with WellStar West Georgia Medical Center and Breast Friends for Life leading the way.

Every year, it draws hundreds of people and raises thousands of dollars for free breast exams and treatment options.

It’s inspiring to watch so many women from different walks of life joining hands to fight back against this disease that has taken so many too soon.

A total of 82 people took part in the 10-mile walk, while others were enjoying a day of fun and support as they battle the disease.

There was a lot of information available this weekend and many in the community took advantage of it.

However, there’s one thought everyone who attended Saturday hopefully left with — scheduling an examination with a doctor. It’s not just for women either. Men can also get breast cancer.

Like any cancer or disease, the success stories increase exponentially when breast cancer is caught in the early stages. We urge you not to wait. In this month of October, there’s no better time to schedule a routine exam, get checked out and know whether or not everything is OK.

We also want to say thanks to everyone who played a part in organizing this year’s event. It remains a reminder of what community is all about — people coming together for a common cause.

No city does that quite like LaGrange.
