Service league’s annual attic sale to be held Oct. 7

The Junior Service League will hold its 43rd annual Attic Sale Saturday, Oct. 7.

The event sells an array of gently used items, such as furniture, lawn and garden items and toys, donated throughout the year. Attic Sale Chair Jennifer Wallace said this year’s sale includes a piano.

League president Ashley Mayfield said the event relies on community support.

“The only way we’re able to do the attic sale is through the community with their donations,” Mayfield said.

Wallace said the event is a good deal for people who may not be able to afford new items but want quality goods.

“It’s a great deal because it’s gently used stuff. Families around town might not have the opportunity to buy something new and spend $150. They can come and get something gently used that’s $20,” Wallace said. “It’s definitely a great service to the community.”

Because the league accepts donations from anyone, Mayfield said the sale has a large variety of products available.

“It definitely has a variety of items. Anybody can find something,” she said.

Mayfield said the organization holds the event yearly to fund its projects and mini-grants for the year.

“It is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of volunteers,” she said.

There will be a pre-sale on Oct. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 pm.  The items will be price and a half for the pre-sale and it will cost a $5 entry fee. There will also be early entry Saturday at 8 a.m. for $5 admission. Regular admission begins at 8:30 a.m. for $1. The event is located at the Callaway Conference Center of West Georgia Technical College.
