LAGRANGE – The champs are coming to town.

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes, who have won back-to-back state championships, will bring a 6-0 record into Friday’s game against the LaGrange Grangers.

Also this week, the Callaway Cavaliers will open their region schedule with a home game against Lamar County on Thursday, and Lafayette Christian School will be at home on Friday against Praise Academy.

Troup, on the heels of its impressive win over Sandy Creek, is off this week.

Cartersville ran its winning streak to 36 with last week’s 55-6 trouncing of Central-Carroll.

The Purple Hurricanes, led by Clemson-bound quarterback Trevor Lawrence, are 2-0 in Region 5-AAAA.

For LaGrange, the season has gone in the opposite direction.

LaGrange (0-6 overall) is 0-2 in the region after falling to Cedartown 38-10 last week.

Callaway (5-0 overall) will begin defense of its Region 5-AA championship on Thursday against Lamar County.

Callaway played a challenging non-region schedule and managed to come through it unscathed.

In its most recent game on Sept. 21, Callaway out-lasted Harris County 28-27.

Lamar County, which was also off last week, fell to 0-5 with a 41-21 loss to Morgan County on Sept. 22.

Lafayette Christian made things interesting last week, rallying from a big deficit in the second half before losing to Central Christian 38-34 to fall to 0-6.

Praise Academy improved to 2-5 with last week’s 24-6 win over Peoples Baptist Academy.

Troup will take a break this week before resuming its season on Oct. 13 against LaGrange.
