LAGRANGE – The Troup Tigers, on the heels of their blowout victory over Sandy Creek, have soared into the top five in this week’s Maxwell Ratings.

The Maxwell Ratings are released each Monday by the Georgia High School Football Daily.

Troup wasn’t ranked a week ago, but that changed following the impressive 71-16 victory over Sandy Creek on Friday night at Callaway Stadium.

Quarterback Montez Crowe threw for more than 500 yards with eight touchdowns to lead Troup to the blowout win.

Troup (6-0) moved all the way up to number four in Class AAAA, while Sandy Creek dropped to 11th.

Four teams in Region 5-AAAA, including Troup and Sandy Creek, are ranked among the top 12 teams.

Cartersville, which has won two consecutive state championships, is ranked first, and Cedartown is 12th.

Troup, which is off this week, will visit Cedartown on Oct. 20 before finishing the regular season with a home game against Cartersville on Nov. 3.

In Class AA, the Callaway Cavaliers (5-0) are fifth in this week’s rankings.

Callaway didn’t play last week, and it will open its Region 5-AA schedule on Thursday against Lamar County at home.

Heard County, which is in Region 5-AA along with Callaway, is ranked ninth.
