LAGRANGE – Welcome to the rankings, Troup Tigers.

Troup, after its 71-16 dismantling of Sandy Creek last week, is ninth in Class AAAA in this week’s Georgia Sports Writers Association poll.

The poll is voted on by sports writers across the state.

Troup (6-0) is ninth in this week’s poll, and it is one of three teams from Region 5-AAAA in the top 10.

Cartersville, which has won two straight state championships, is ranked first, and Cedartown is 10th.

Sandy Creek was ranked a week ago, but it has fallen out of the top 10.

Thomson is second in Class AAAA, and Jefferson, Ridgeland and Blessed Trinity round out the top five.

Marist, Burke County and Woodward Academy are next, and Troup and Cedartown completed the top 10.

Callaway (5-0), which was off last week, remains second in Class AA, while defending state champion Benedictine is first.

Screven County, which Callaway beat in the quarterfinals last year, is third, and Hapeville Charter and Rabun County are third through fifth, respectively.

The rest of the teams in the top 10 are Thomasville, Brooks County, Heard County and Dodge County.

Grayson is the top-ranked team in Class AAAAAA, Lee County is first in Class AAAAAA, Rome is tops in Class AAAAA, Cedar Grove leads the way in Class AAA, and Eagle’s Landing Christian is the front-runner in Class A.
