The Lafayette Christian School Cougars are hoping to pick up where they left off.

In last week’s 38-34 loss to Central Christian, Lafayette Christian put together a stirring comeback attempt in the fourth quarter that fell just short.

The Cougars scored four touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and they had the ball at the end with an opportunity to win the game.

The Cougars ran out of time, though, and they came up just short in their quest to collect their first win of the season.

Lafayette Christian will take another shot at the elusive first win today when it hosts Praise Academy.

It will be the final home game of the season for the Cougars, who fell to 0-6 with last week’s hard-fought loss.

After rallying to get within four, Lafayette Christian’s defense made a stop, and the offense got the ball back with 46 seconds remaining.

The Cougars made it to midfield when time ran out.

Quarterback Landon Whitley only completed three passes, but he threw for 93 yards with a touchdown.

Whitley also ran for 74 yards on 20 attempts with two touchdowns.

Amani Jenkins, one of the many talented young players on the roster, ran for 80 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown, and Jacob Lueken had 61 yards on 11 attempts.

Mitch Crandall added 14 yards on three carries.

While it has been a difficult season as far as wins and losses go, the future is bright with the emergence of a lot of players who still have three or even four years of high-school football remaining.

“If we keep all of our guys, and keep all of our eighth-graders, we’ve got 25 next year,” Lafayette Christian head coach Nate Shaw said. “At a school our size, that means a lot.”
