LaGrange wins county championships

LAGRANGE – It was LaGrange High’s day.

The county cross-country meet was held at Troup High last week, and LaGrange was the big winner.

In the boys’ race, six of the first seven runners were from LaGrange, with Lafayette Christian School’s Michael Loutzenheiser capturing the top spot.

In the girls’ race, LaGrange’s Zamya Rhaney placed first, and three of her teammates finished in the top five.

The race included runners from LaGrange, Callaway, Troup and Lafayette Christian.

In the boys’ race, Loutzenheiser won the county championship for a second straight year.

In last week’s race, which took the runners all across the property at Troup High, Loutzenheiser placed first with a time of 16 minutes, 46 seconds.

LaGrange’s outstanding sophomore, Alex Bowie, was second, and he was followed across the finish line by teammates Joshua Turman, John McDonald, Logan Lopez, Cameron Thomas and Matt Callaway.

Finishing eighth was Callaway’s Calik Kemp, and LaGrange’s Donta Dunson and Chase Arrington rounded out the top 10.

Troup’s top finisher was Christian Gay in 11th place.

Other runners for LaGrange were Alex Martin, Javid Coleman, James Burgos, Ethan Sims, Oscar Francisco, Aaron Fritchley, Nathan Fritchley, Isais Pavon, Michael Ramirez, Carter Critex, Cam Larry, Carson Crocker, Alex Brock, Drew Bateman and Deshawn Hill.

Finishing behind Gay for Troup were Ryan Fuller, Tre Lance, Parker Stover and Tyler Meadows.

Ian Daughtery was Callaway’s second fastest runner behind Kemp, and he was followed by teammates Coleman Arrington, Migeal Perez, Jayvon Nunley, Hayden Taylor, Jalhwan Nunley and Evan Thompson.

Jacob Rocker was Lafayette Christian’s second finisher behind Loutzenheiser, and he was followed by Alex Kliesch and Cade Parnell.

In the girls’ race, it was LaGrange’s Zamya Rhaney and Anna Doerr finishing first and second, respectively.

Troup’s Natalie Figiel earned a third-place finish, and LaGrange’s Chloe Morman and Zenay Rhaney were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Also for Troup, Charley Harry finished fourth, Catherine Leveritt was seventh, Lafayette Christian School’s Lily Skipworth was 11th, and Callaway’s only runner, Gabrielle Nixon, was unable to finish because of an injury.

Other finishers for LaGrange were Mary Beth Callaway, Mary Claire Bakarich, Hannah Yang and Brooke Stansbury, while Zoe Giddens competed for Troup.
