A group of 86 LaGrange College students spent last weekend volunteering in the community.

The students installed landscaping and cross ties, weeded the area and picked up trash throughout Calumet Park. They also worked to refresh nearby Arc Refuge Ministry that caters to the homeless community.

Dr. Robert Tucker, Calumet Park Neighborhood Association President, said he was extremely impressed with the group of students and their work ethic.

“What impressed me the most was the attitude I saw in them. They were willing, enthusiastic and had a positive attitude,” Tucker said.

“It really lifted my spirits and renewed my belief in our young people who are present in what’s going on and want to make a difference.”

LaGrange College has a Service Saturday every fall and spring offering students a chance to volunteer in the community. It is not required for students to participate.

When the students volunteer, they bring all the tools and supplies needed to finish the project.

Dr. Tucker says he was so impressed with the group he hopes to work with them again in the future.
