Anyone that watches college football or the NFL knows that the seasons are really starting now, since we’ve made it to the final weekend of October.

Georgia, Georgia Tech and Auburn are all very much in the running for conference championships, if they can get through the next few weeks unscathed. We’re guessing a lot of people will be watching this weekend as the Bulldogs try to end a three-year losing streak to Florida.

College football is obviously big in Troup, but let’s not forget about the high school teams locally, who will wrap up their regular seasons over the next two weeks.

LaGrange, still searching for its first win, will play at Chapel Hill this week in its regular season finale. Lafayette Christian will also play its season finale at Twiggs Academy on Friday.

Callaway and Troup High School are still fighting for playoff positioning, and both teams still have two games left. Callaway plays at Spencer Saturday before taking on Jordan in its regular season finale Thursday.

Troup will try to finish out a successful regular season with home games against Central and Cartersville. Not to get caught looking ahead, but the Cartersville game figures to be for the class AAAA, region 5 championship, and is the perfect measuring stick for the Cavaliers before they get into the playoffs. It’d be great if all four of these teams could look up in the stands and see a packed crowd for their final games of the year. We’re sure the cheerleaders and band members would appreciate it as well.

A big crowd would give each team a  true homefield advantage as they navigate their final regular season games of the year. For Callaway and Troup, that advantage could mean a lot once the playoffs start.
