Edwin David George, 77, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice. He was the son of Elsie and Frank George and was born in Wheaton, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Gail George and two daughters, Mary (Calvin) Heard or Fortson, GA and Margie (Michael) Buckler, of Ringgold, GA. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary (Linda Winter) George of Maui, HI and Majorie George of Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Carolyn Pennel and Emma Jean Blinka and two brothers, Joe George and Lee George.

He grew up in Purdy, MO and graduated from Purdy High School in 1958. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation. He was a dental technician in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He retired in 1979 and moved with his family to the Gabbettville Community in LaGrange, Georgia. He worked for Interface Flooring for many years and retired from there in 2002.

He was active in his community and served as Chief for the Long Cane Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was faithfully attending Long Cane Baptist Church at the time of his death.

He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife in recent years and loved gardening every summer and sharing with others. His greatest blessings came from the time that he spent with his five precious grandchildren, David, Sarah and Caleb Buckler of Ringgold, GA and Samuel and Graceanna Heard of Fortson, GA.

The gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. S.T. Janney and the Rev. Aaron McCollough officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Georgia Hospice, Long Cane Baptist Church or RU Ministries of Grace Baptist Church.
