DOUGLASVILLE – It was a heart-breaking conclusion to a difficult season for the LaGrange Grangers.

LaGrange had a one-point lead late, but Chapel Hill scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than 20 seconds remaining.

Chapel Hill successfully converted the two-point try to cap the scoring, and it went on to claim a 25-18 victory.

It was the closest the Grangers (0-10) came to getting a victory all season, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Chapel Hill (5-3 overall) improved to 2-2 in Region 5-AAAA and moved a step closer to securing one of the region’s four playoff spots.

The Grangers were down 14-0 in the second quarter, but they ate into that deficit on a 6-yard scoring pass from Charles Crawford to senior tight end CJ Scott.

LaGrange went for two, and Crawford completed the pass to Koby Patton to cut Chapel Hill’s lead to 14-8.

Chapel Hill added a field goal to take a 17-8 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, LaGrange’s Matt Rainey made a field goal, and Chapel Hill led 17-11.

Later in the third quarter, Jeremiah Holloway recovered a fumble at the Chapel Hill 4-yard line.

That led to a Cornell Kendrick touchdown run, and it was a tie game.

Rainey’s extra point gave LaGrange an 18-17 lead with 2:04 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, LaGrange blocked a Chapel Hill field-goal attempt to maintain its narrow one-point lead.

Chapel Hill began its final possession at its own 20-yard line, and it drove 80 yards for the winning score to earn the dramatic win.
