Mr. Herbert H. Smith, 87 year old resident of Lanett, passed away, Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born on Aug. 18, 1930, in Randolph County, Alabama, to the late Thomas M. and Mattie Carpenter Smith. He was a lifelong resident of the Valley area. Mr. Smith was retired from the City of Phenix City Utilities and was co-owner of Smith Sheet Metal and heating company in West Point until 1964.

Mr. Smith was also a member of the West Point Chapter of Masons and a member of Backyard Brotherhood in Valley AL.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law: Richard W. and Denise Smith of Fairmount, Georgia, Timothy M. and Dawn Smith of Woodstock, Georgia and Michael D. and Tammy Smith of Cumming, Georgia.  His grandchildren, Amy Pearson, Dusty  Smith, Brian Smith, Colton Smith and Seth Smith; several great grandchildren; his step grandchildren, Cassidy Krebbs, Danny Johns and Dana Lopp; nieces and nephews, Mike Pike, Sandra Smith, Patti Smith Hamil, Billy Sides, Mitch Pike and Nancy Pike Hall.   Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie daughter Robin, and son David P. Smith.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held from the graveside in Oakwood Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at 4 p.m. EDT.

There will not be set hours for a visitation, but family and friends may drop by Bluffton Funeral Services. Honorary pallbearers are Dusty Smith, Brian Smith, Seth Smith, Billy Sides, Mike Morgan and Colton Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
