LAGRANGE – They’re hoping to move a step closer to a title.

The Lafayette Christian School Cougars will host Arlington today at 5 p.m. with a trip to the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association middle-school championship game on the line.

A week ago, Lafayette Christian beat Community Christian 28-0 to reach the semifinals.

The championship game is next week, and it will be held at Lafayette Christian School’s stadium.

Lafayette Christian (8-1) dropped its first game of the season to Cherokee, but it hasn’t lost since.

The Cougars closed the regular season with seven straight wins, and they extended that winning streak to eight with last week’s shutout win.

Quarterback Zack Thompson leads the Cougars’ offense, and head coach Jarred Pike said he has done a tremendous job.

“He’s been really good,” Pike said. “He’s a good passer. When the guys are in the huddle, he tells them to be quiet, listen up. He takes control of everything.”

Jacob Karvelas is another offensive weapon from his running-back position.

“He’s quick, and he’s strong,” Pike said.

Pike said the Cougars aren’t looking to fool anyone offensively.

“We run the I, and we just pound it,” Pike said.

Pike said Caleb Deavers and Justin Moore lead a strong defense from their defensive-line position.
