Now the hard work really begins

As we write this, the final results from Tuesday’s election haven’t even started coming in yet. Voters are still standing in line or preparing to rush home from work in time to get to the polls.

At the end of the night, this paper will include election results from around the county. Also by the end of the night, we’ll know who the mayor will be in LaGrange, West Point and Hogansville for the next four years.

We’ll also have elected new council members in all three cities and SPLOST V will have either been approved or voted down.

We want to thank all of the candidates who put themselves into the public eye and ran for office this year.

There may be candidates you don’t see eye to eye on, but all of them deserve some praise for stepping into the spotlight.

Any new elected candidates won’t take office for several more weeks, but those who were elected have already spent months on the campaign trail. They’ve talked about the issues and what they’d like to accomplish in office.

The hard work truly begins now.

For anyone finishing up time in office — at least a few council members fall into this spot — there’s still time to work on any final projects.

For anyone about to take office, the next few weeks will be important as a chance to hear from the voters who elected you.

It’s also a time for the newly elected candidates to get caught up on what’s going on in the city they’ll be representing. We hope to look back and think that this election was the one that led Troup County on into a bright future.
