There remains no leads in the ongoing search for Carol Evans, according to Sgt. Stewart Smith with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. K-9 units were used Tuesday and will be used again Wednesday, Smith said.

“The K-9’s came out and searched and didn’t have any positive hits on anything,” Smith said. “The plan is to bring a different group of dogs back tomorrow and hit the area again.”

The TCSO has been searching for the missing 75-year-old woman since Friday afternoon. Evans was last seen in her house in West Point Friday when her husband went to cut grass at 2 p.m. She suffers from an “altered mental state,” according Smith.

On Monday, the office starting using K-9s to search for Evans, Smith said.

“We’ve pretty much scaled back our ground operation, and we’re basically relying on K-9s at this point to see if they can hit up on any type of scents or anything at this point,” Smith said. “We [got rid of searchers] out of these areas to kind of let the scents come out of there so the dogs can concentrate on what they need to be smelling for.”

Smith said the office uses the dogs for searching until they tire out.
