Woman hit in head with hammer during alleged robbery

A male suspect allegedly hit a 65-year-old Walmart sales associate in the head with a hammer during a robbery at the store on New Franklin Road Saturday at 4:40 a.m. According to a LaGrange Police Department press release, two male suspects were in the process of stealing cell phones from a counter in the electronics department.

The associate tried to stop them but one of them hit her in the head with the hammer. She was knocked to the ground by the other suspect. The associate was taken to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center and treated for her injuries, according to the press release. The two suspects left the store without paying for an undisclosed number of items from the store.

According to the LPD press release, the suspects are seen on security footage escaping through an emergency exit into a waiting vehicle.

The car is described as a red or maroon four-door sedan.  The men are described as African American and in their mid-20s.  Anyone with information on the case should contact the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603 or Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
