The Troup County Board of Education voted Thursday to approve repairs to the canopy at Troup County High School.

The work will be completed by Benchmark Contracting. The board approved a total cost of $46,945.

“During regular maintenance, the maintenance department noticed we have bricks that are starting to come off the wall,” said assistant superintendent John Radcliffe.

“It appears there was a leak back behind there, so we’ve had some deterioration of that whole area.”

The canopy is a covered outdoor area located near the school’s cafeteria.

Radcliffe said the work will start right away, and that there are no safety concerns related to the work.

It was unclear if repair work started during the school’s Thanksgiving break, which began on Monday.
