Troup County School System joined the National Education Association, National Parent Teacher Association and National School Public Relations Association in getting social for American Education Week beginning Nov. 13.

The organizations highlighted education activities through the hashtag #PublicSchoolsForAll. TCSS will went one step further in showcasing school activities and district priorities related to literacy on their social sites such as Facebook and the district website.

Literacy is one of the top three priorities for TCSS, along with Rigorous and Relevant Instruction and Creating a Culture of Success. District leaders believe showing literacy initiatives that are taking place in the classroom is a great fit for this week of informing the community about public schools.

According to the National Education Association website, the #PublicSchoolsForAll campaign is an avenue to show that public schools are the cornerstone of our communities; welcoming students of all backgrounds, abilities, and incomes. The organization stated that this month, during American Education Week, it was time to show public school pride.

Troup County School System is an accredited educational system with over 11,900 students in grades K-12. TCSS does offer a free Pre-K program at each elementary school. The system is comprised of eleven elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, one college and career academy, and one alternative learning center. Students within the school system are taught a rigorous and relevant curriculum that helps them make college and career choices beyond graduation and succeed in life. The system 2017 graduation rate rose 6.6 percentage points in three years to 78.0 percent.
