As Hogansville got into the holiday spirit with its Sip ‘N’ Shop earlier this month, The Suffering Artist opened a show honoring the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces over the years.

This is the second year that The Suffering Artist has opened this show in conjunction with the Sip ‘N’ Shop, and the gallery owners say they enjoy being part of the annual event while recognizing veterans.

“I love doing it, and I look forward to doing it every year,” Chris Swanson said. “It is right between Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving Day, and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Several veterans participated in the show, while many of the non-veteran artists recognized the veterans that shaped their lives in art.

“There was one veteran from World War II that he actually has exhibited some of his wood carvings, and they are there for you to see,” Gallery Owner Sarah Swanson said. “There are five veteran artists that are showing their work.”

The veteran artists along with the recognition of veterans adds a layer of meaning to the art for the gallery owners.

“It is our favorite show of the year,” Chris Swanson said. “People always look for meaning in art. Well, here, in a show like this, the meaning it’s not hard to find. It is close to the surface, and it has an impact on people’s emotions, and that is what we want art to do.”

The show will be open through Jan. 6 at the Suffering Artist in Hogansville.
