It’ll be a busy week on the wrestling mat.

The teams from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will all be on the mat as the season heats up.

The Troup wrestling team, coming off a first-place performance in the Hewitt-Trussville Duals last week, will host a tri-meet today with Smiths Station and Shaw.

Before the wrestling begins, Troup’s seniors will be recognized during a ceremony at 5:45 p.m.

In the first match, it will be Troup taking on Shaw at 6 p.m.

After Smiths Station and Shaw face off, Troup and Smiths Station will meet in the day’s final match.

On Nov. 18, Troup participated in the Buford Invitational and had seven wrestlers place fifth or higher.

Among that group was Chase Seals, who was second in the 152-pound division.

Trevor Upchurch (132 pounds), Quenton Kersey (195 pounds), Byron  Butts (220 pounds) and Darious Hanson (126 pounds) each finished third, Graham Finlay (170 pounds) was fourth, and Pearson Strickland (113 pounds) was fifth.

Troup finished fifth overall, despite only taking nine wrestlers to the meet.

Troup finishes its week by competing in the Trojan War Duals in Carrollton on Saturday.

Callaway’s wrestling team will make its home debut when it hosts Temple and Pacelli today, with the action set to get under way at 5:30 p.m.

Callaway’s varsity team participated in the JC Ferrell Duals on Nov. 18 and the Jonesboro Thanksgiving Duals on Nov. 22.

LaGrange will host the Clark Rich Cradle Classic Duals on Saturday, with six teams set to participate.

The tournament is named after the long-time LaGrange coach who died last year.

It will be the first event for the varsity team since it opened the season on Nov. 18 in the JC Ferrell Duals.
