During the annual meeting of the Georgia Association of School Business Officials (GASBO) in Augusta., Troup County School System’s (TCSS) Chief Financial Officer, Byron Jones, was named a Director to the Board. He was selected from over 400 attendees from around the state and will hold a two-year term.

As a member of the GASBO Board, he hopes to bring insights and views of how the organization can benefit all school districts throughout the state. With over 180 school districts, Jones believes they can build an enhanced information platform that will be valuable for all districts.

While GASBO is a state-wide organization, Jones feels he will have the opportunity to share local insights and views that will help other educational systems build upon their successes.

Jones has been in education for almost 13 years, first starting in Meriwether County then bringing his skills for keeping a school system financially sound to his home — Troup County. He is a former graduate of Troup High School and has a passion for keeping the line of communication open between the district office and the public, especially when it is in regards to questions about the fiscal stability of the organization.

He said his finance team is outstanding and embraces progressive ideas, “Our team has embraced a vision of progressiveness in order to move TCSS forward in areas of compliance, technology, and transparency. They have integrated an entirely new accounting system that places us into a position of strategic importance as we move forward.  In addition, we have obtained the highest financial auditing opinion allowable. This is an extraordinary honor.”

During his free time, you can find Jones golfing, camping, horseback riding, or watching sporting events.

He and his wife Kelly have three daughters and one granddaughter.

“It is truly an honor to be able to serve the community in this role as I have been raised in Troup County my entire life.,” Jones said. “
