The Callaway Cavaliers will have to wait.

Callaway’s boys’ basketball team was scheduled to open its season on Friday, but the game at Troup was postponed because of winter weather.

All of the local sporting events scheduled for Friday were either postponed or canceled, including the games at Troup.

Callaway will host Troup on Dec. 15.

A makeup date for Friday’s games hasn’t been announced.

The Cavaliers are the only local basketball team that hasn’t played yet, and they’re hoping that changes today.

The boys’ and girls’ teams from Callaway and LaGrange, weather-permitting, will play today.

Callaway will be the host team, and the girls’ game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow.

Another one of the casualties of the winter weather is the Chattahoochee River Wrestling Association tournament.

The two-day event was to be held at Central-Carroll, but the decision was made early Friday to cancel it.

Also postponed on Friday were LaGrange Academy’s scheduled home games against Oak Mountain, as well as Lafayette Christian’s road games against Harvester.

If today’s games are played, Callaway’s boys’ team will play its long-awaited opener.

The LaGrange Grangers have played four games, and they evened their record at 2-2 with last week’s 75-68 win over Harris County.

Bo Russell, LaGrange’s outstanding senior guard, scored 31 points against Harris County, and Daz Williams had 17 points.

LaGrange, after an 0-2 start, has won back-to-back games, both in overtime.

Last season, LaGrange won both meetings with Callaway.

LaGrange won 75-65 at home, and it won 58-47 at Callaway.

The Callaway Lady Cavaliers have played one game, and they beat Whitewater 61-56.

LaGrange’s girls’ team is 2-3 after falling to Harris County 79-50 last week.

LaGrange beat Callaway twice last season.

LaGrange won 63-45 at home before winning 62-38 at Callaway.
