The Troup Tigers have shown they know how to win on an opposing team’s court.

The Tigers have played three road games, and they’ve won two of them, including last week’s 75-68 win over the Kendrick Cherokees.

Now, the Tigers will look to find some success on their home court.

Troup (2-3) will host Heard County today as it looks for a breakthrough home win after two losses.

In its previous home games, Troup lost to East Coweta and Kendrick.

It’s a work in progress for the Tigers and their head coach Blake Craft.

Many of the team’s top players have recently made the transition from football, and Craft said

“we’re still trying to get them in basketball shape. We’re still nowhere near 100 percent.”

The same goes for Heard County, which has a roster filled with players who joined the basketball team a week ago.

Heard County’s football team made it to the Class AA semifinals before falling to Hapeville-Charter.

Most of the top players on the basketball team also played football, including quarterback Emory Jones who plans on signing with Ohio State.

Heard County is 0-5, but it has only played one game with a full complement of players.

Heard County lost to Bowdon 60-50 in overtime last week.

Also today, the Troup Lady Tigers (3-2) will go for their third consecutive win when they host Heard County.

Troup’s teams close the week with games at Callaway on Friday.

Troup and Callaway were supposed to play last week, but the games were postponed because of the winter weather.

In private-school basketball this week, LaGrange Academy and Lafayette Christian will both be busy.

Today, LaGrange Academy’s teams will be at home against rival Flint River for a GISA Region 1-AA doubleheader.

LaGrange Academy’s boys’ team is hoping to build on the momentum it gained with last week’s home win over Cottage School.

The Warriors lost their first six games of the season, so they were glad to get into the winner’s circle for the first time.

LaGrange Academy brings an 0-3 region record into today’s game against Flint River.

Mason Brown, LaGrange Academy’s outstanding senior guard, scored 23 points against Cottage School to lead the way.

LaGrange Academy head coach Will Hall felt a key to the victory was his team’s willingness to mix it up in the paint.

“The biggest thing we did was, we went inside,” Long said. “We went inside, and we were able to get points down there.”

LaGrange Academy’s girls’ team is 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the region heading into today’s showdown with Flint River.

LaGrange Academy’s teams will visit Cottage School in Atlanta on Thursday.

Lafayette Christian’s teams will be at home against Heirway Christian today before taking three weeks off.
