They’re the future stars of high-school basketball in Troup County.

The local middle schools each have thriving basketball programs, and those players will be putting their skills on display this weekend during the City-Wide Middle School Boys & Girls Showcase.

Teams from Gardner Newman, Callaway, Long Cane and LaGrange Academy will be among the participants in the showcase.

The event made its debut last year at LaGrange College, and the games will be played in the LaGrange High gym this year.

“People can see the kind of talent the high schools have to look forward to in upcoming years,” said showcase organizer Otis Gilbert.

There will be a total of nine schools represented, and Gilbert said the teams will be coming from all across the state.

“We’ve added some teams from the Atlanta area and the south Georgia area,” Gilbert said. “You see a different kind of talent level.”
