Martha Lewis

Martha Lewis passed away Wednesday.

She was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Heard County, Georgia to the late, Aaron and LuGennie Robinson Thornton, Sr.

She joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a dedicated servant.

She attended school at Ebenezer School in Franklin, Georgia; after which, she was employed by Flat Rock Manufacturing Company until she retired.

Survivors include her children:  Lugenia Lewis, Pierce Lewis, Jr., both of Franklin, Georgia; Dwaine (Angerline) Lewis, Thomaston, Georgia; Gregory Lewis, Franklin, Georgia: and Arlisa Lewis, Atlanta, Georgia; 22 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and three great-great-great grandchildren; five sisters:  Charlie Mae Sims, LaGrange, Georgia; Annie Ruth Wilkes and Artis Andrews, Franklin, Georgia; Mary “Honey” Thornton, Peachtree City, Georgia; and Ida V. Bohannon, Newnan, Georgia; brother-in-law, Ivey Foster, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Sylver Jean Thornton, Franklin, Georgia; and Virginia Dowell, LaGrange; one adopted son, Daniel Nelson, Twin City, Georgia; 47 foster grandchildren through her daughter, Arlisa Lewis whom she loved and nurtured as her own; she was also loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many who called her “mom”.

The service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Hogansville.
