Hendricks leads CHS drama department to victory

Callaway High School’s new drama director, Honour Hayes Hendricks, loves seeing her student’s excitement as they perform on stage. As the yearbook advisor and a first year educator, she has made Troup County her choice for employment.
Growing up only one county over in Manchester, she says that she and her husband, Jeremy, love the area. While getting to know Troup County better, Hendricks brings her experience as a former member of the Thespian Society to her current position. She says it influenced her to become a drama teacher and start the drama program at Callaway High School.
“As a director, I get to have a unique relationship with my students. I spend more time after school with them, and we work as a team to create a production. I love getting to know my students and watching them grow throughout a production,” Hendricks said.
She feels the difference she can make with students is immense, and she sees herself as more than a teacher.
“My goals throughout the day are to mentor, teach, advise, and guide,” Hendricks said.
Hendricks is also an avid reader and enjoys teaching her students the importance of attendance, “If you are not present, then you cannot be present for each other. Being present is incredibly important in building relationships. Without relationships neither the teacher nor the students can thrive.”
Recently, Hendricks and her One Act Play Drama Team swept the region competition and were honored at the December Board of Education meeting.
When she is not guiding her students in a One Act Play, you can find her and her husband enjoying the lake, going to see plays, attending Bible study, or playing with their fur baby, Zuzu.
