Edward Smith, chairman of the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, announced last week that a sole finalist has been selected to fill the executive director’s position.

“We are pleased to put forth Bill Hunnicutt of LaGrange, for the board’s consideration. Hunnicutt is a graduate of LaGrange High School and the University of Georgia, where he received a degree in Marketing,” Smith said.

Hunnicutt has experience in the fields of real estate and finance and was selected from a field of 20 candidates. He will be formally voted upon at the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority’s board meeting on Jan. 9, 2018.

Hunnicutt will take over for Bobby Carmichael, who announced his plan to retire in September, once a replacement had been hired. Carmichael has been at the helm of the DLDA since 2011.

The Downtown LaGrange Development Authority oversees $28 million in assets including Del’avant event center and Sweetland Amphitheatre.

Upon the announcement of his selection, Hunnicutt said, “I can’t overstate how excited I am to be entrusted with the responsibility of continuing the great work our DLDA has been doing for our community. Under Mr. Carmichael’s watch, our downtown has transformed into one of the most unique communities in our great state. I will work tirelessly to carry the torch onward and find new ways to utilize the amazing infrastructure that has been built in downtown LaGrange.”
