The Rose Bowl is known as the granddaddy of them all, since it was first played in 1902 and is the oldest bowl game.

It’s a game so important, with such a big matchup, that even those of us on the east coast stop what we’re doing and sit in front of the TV for three hours to watch it.

There’s not another atmosphere quite like it.

On Monday night, Georgia made memories at the Rose Bowl that Bulldogs fans will never forget, erasing a 17-point lead to Oklahoma in the first semifinal of the College Football Playoff. Georgia will move on to face Alabama for the national championship. Atlanta, home of the SEC Championship each year, is the perfect location for that game, and we’re sure many locals will be making the short trip for the title game.

Georgia wide receiver Terry Godwin, a Callaway High School graduate, is the biggest local star from the Bulldogs. He’s all over the TV during the games, catching passes and making big blocks down the field, and this community is cheering hard for him.

However, he’s not the only local playing a part in this magical season. Jennifer Aplin and Duncan Lord are members of the Redcoat Marching Band and Hallie Hale is a member of the Georgettes.

All of these students are from Troup County and are working hard on the biggest stage in college football. When you’re watching Monday night’s game, be sure to look for them. The bands should be featured prominently during halftime.

Godwin, Aplin, Lord and Hale have already performed at the granddaddy of them all, but now there’s one bigger game.

We wish them luck as they prepare for Monday’s game against Alabama. Regardless of the outcome, it’ll be a night full of memories they’ll never forget.
