The streak is over.

LaGrange High’s wrestling team finished fourth in the Area 5-AAAA duals on Saturday, putting an end to the team’s five-year streak of advancing to the state duals.

LaGrange went 3-1 on Saturday, with its lone loss coming to Central-Carroll in the semifinals.

Central-Carroll went on to lose to Troup in the championship match, and both of those teams advance to the state duals.

While disappointed to see the streak end, LaGrange head coach Scooter Weathers was pleased with the way his team competed.

“They wrestled well,” Weathers said. “I can’t fuss at them. They got after it. It was good overall. I praised them, and told them I was proud of them.”

After beating Chapel Hill 78-6, Cedartown 51-23 and Cartersville 42-31, LaGrange advanced to face Central-Carroll with a spot in the state duals on the line.

It was a competitive match, with Central-Carroll winning 40-27 to end LaGrange’s hopes of making it to state.

“We’ll just start a new streak next year,” Weathers said.

Among LaGrange’s standout performers on Saturday were Dexter Fitzpatrick and Lane Oliver, who each went 4-0.

Matt Callaway, Jacob Anderson, John Arthur and Cole Everett each won three matches.

LaGrange will compete in a traditional-format tournament at Smiths Station on Friday and Saturday.
