Jonathan and Kaleigh Pruitt, 27, and 25, were arrested and charged with deprivation of a minor after LaGrange Police determined they were living in deplorable conditions with their children at the Town & Country Motel on New Franklin Road.

The couple was arrested Jan. 3 after 8:30 p.m.

A three-month-old infant was discovered dead and the police determined the other two children were living in deplorable conditions.

According to LaGrange Police Sgt. Robert Kirby, police were originally called to the scene by people who thought they heard fighting.

“But what it turned out, [Jonathan and Kaliegh] woke up and found that the infant had passed away, and they were just trying to find a phone, was the ruckus people were hearing,” Kirby said.

Both were arrested with three charges with depravation of a minor. The police are also investigating the death of the infant, Kirby said.

“Now, it’s two separate incidents. There’s the deprivation incident, which involves the deplorable conditions. The death of the infant is still under investigation, so we don’t know the cause at this point,” Kirby said. “An autopsy has been performed, so were basically waiting on results from the GBI, but at this point they’re charged with misdemeanors.”

Kirby said the couple’s 1-year-old and 5-year-old are in protective custody.

Man arrested after running from police into Chinese restaurant

A man was arrested after running away from police at the Jumbo Chinese Restaurant Monday on Commerce Avenue after 10:15 a.m.

Officers were advised that Rassaah Brooks, 38, attempted to shoplift multiple items from Kroger and ran from the scene to the restaurant, according to the police report.

While an officer was getting out of his vehicle, he saw Brooks run out of the back door and told him to stop and that he was under arrest.

While chasing him, Brooks ran back inside the restaurant and slammed the door, according to the police report.

Brooks ran into a closet as the officer kicked in the back door. The officer took out his taser and told the man to get out of the closet, according to the police report.

Brooks eventually walked out of the closet.

Brooks had an active warrant for probation violation. Brooks was also charged with obstruction and shoplifting.

Vehicle broken into

A front passenger window of a vehicle was smashed into and a wallet containing $220 cash was allegedly taken from it at the 600 block of Broad Street between Saturday at 11 p.m. and Sunday at 1:45 p.m.

The owner told police the wallet valued at $20 was in the center console and a debit, credit and a gas card were inside it.

Arby’s window smashed

A front window was busted at the Arby’s on New Franklin Road Monday between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. The store manager told police it would cost $50 to replace.
