The Downtown LaGrange Development Authority promoted Sweetland Amphitheatre’s venue manager Keyal Loveland to the position of director on Tuesday.

Loveland has served as Sweetland’s venue manager since January 2016. In that position, she was responsible for box office management, marketing and branding amphitheater events and coordinating front of house operations, including security, volunteer staffing and concession vendors. She will take over for Becca Eiland, who resigned from the position in December.

“While Becca will be greatly missed, I look forward to this opportunity of extended leadership in my third year at Sweetland,” Loveland said. “We are currently working to confirm the five-part Summer Concert Series, and we cannot wait to share the 2018 lineup with our sponsors, partners and supporters. We also have an exciting non-series concert announcement lined up in the next two weeks.”

DLDA representatives were confident that Loveland was the right choice for the job.

“Keyal (Loveland) has been involved in every major decision regarding Sweetland for these past two years,” former DLDA executive director Bobby Carmichael said. “Her prior experience as assistant manager of Birminghams’s Iron City music venue has been invaluable. She has played a significant role in talent selection for Sweetland’s summer concert series and managing Sweetland’s Craft Beer Festival.”

Carmichael’s replacement was likewise approved at the Tuesday DLDA board meeting, and the lone finalist for the position, Bill Hunnicutt was officially approved.

According to a DLDA press release, Carmichael plans to remain in an advisory capacity until Feb. 15. Carmichael announced his plan to retire in September 2017. Hunnicutt also stated that he is excited to have Loveland on board.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Keyal (Loveland)’s background and energy on our staff,” DLDA executive director Bill Hunnicutt said. “I look forward to working with her to take Sweetland to the next level.”
