LaGrange teams sweep to wins

It was a perfect week for LaGrange High’s basketball teams.

Both teams beat Chapel Hill on Saturday to finish the week with unblemished 3-0 records.

In Saturday’s girls’ game, LaGrange stayed unbeaten in the region with a 44-27 win, while LaGrange’s boys’ team rolled to a 73-60 victory.

The Lady Grangers reached the midpoint of the region schedule witha 6-0 record, and they’re alone in first place.

Chapel Hill, which came into the game with one win this season, hung tough for three quarters.

LaGrange was ahead 13-8 after the first quarter and 23-15 at the half, and its lead was down to 30-25 heading into the final period.

In the final eight minutes, though, LaGrange outscored Chapel Hill 14-2 to turn a close game into a blowout.

Chaquave’ayr Robinson scored six of her eight points in the fourth quarter, and Brandasia Cofield and Aryan Dozier each had four points in the final eight minutes.

Dozier led LaGrange with 15 points, and Chnaireia Strozier added 10 points.

In Saturday’s boys’ game, LaGrange outscored Chapel Hill 20-13 in the fourth quarter to break open a competitive game.

The Grangers improved to 4-2 in the region, and they’ve won three straight since dropping back-to-back games.

Senior guard Bo Russell powered the late charge with three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and he scored a game-high 27 points.

Daz Williams made four 3-pointers and scored 15 points, and Covan Huzzie had nine points, all in the first half.

Jay Benton scored seven points, and Vondez Taylor helped LaGrange pull away late with four points in the fourth quarter.
