Senior leads way for Lady Tigers

Central-Carroll had no answer for Troup’s Jedda Madden.
Madden, a senior guard, scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the third quarter to help Troup blow open a close game on the way to a 47-31 victory on Saturday.
Kiya Fulton and Jada Green each scored eight points for Troup, with Green making 6-of-8 attempts from the free-throw line.
Troup improved to 3-2 in Region 5-AAAA heading into today’s home game against Cartersville.
Troup head coach Carla Thornton has encouraged Madden to be more of a take-charge offensive player, and the senior certainly was against Central, particularly in the decisive third quarter.
“I think yesterday we kind of challenged her,” Troup head coach Carla Thornton said. “We told her you can do everything. You’re an unselfish player. If they’re going to give it to you, you’ve got the best shot on the team. Let it fly.”
It was a tight game at the half, with Troup holding an 18-14 lead.
Central scored the first basket of the third quarter to get within two, but Madden answered with a 3-pointer to give Troup a 21-16 lead.
Later in the quarter, after Central got within four, Madden pulled down an offensive rebound and scored to push the lead back to six.
Madden wasn’t done.
In the final three minutes of the third quarter, Madden hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points to give Troup a 38-25 cushion.
Troup held a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter.
After back-to-back road losses to Sandy Creek and LaGrange, Troup has now won two in a row, and it can make it three straight with a win today against Cartersville.
Today’s game marks the half-way point of the region schedule.
“It’s a puzzle, and we’re trying to put it together piece by piece so it’ll come together at the right time,” Thornton said. “I’m not going to try to force pieces together. That’s kind of our mindset right now.”
