Two people were taken to the emergency room at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center after a head on collision Thursday around 2:40 p.m. The crash occurred after a vehicle hit a patch of ice on Lafayette Parkway and slid into the other lane of traffic.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation crash report, a Nissan Xterra was traveling 40 miles per hour on the road when it hit the ice patch, crossed into the other lane and collided with a Chevrolet Traverse.

The driver and the passenger of the Traverse were treated by the LaGrange Fire Department. The driver of the Nissan had a cut to his right hand, according to the report.

The driver of the Nissan was cited for failure to maintain lane.

LaGrange Police Sgt. Marshall McCoy said driving on ice requires going at a safe speed.

“It just melted into that thick sheet of ice and the speed limit on the parkway is 45 and just the admission of going 40 (miles per hour) is way, way too fast,” McCoy said. “It’s very similar to hydroplaning in the rain when you hit a patch of water.”

Gun taken from vehicle

A 9mm SCCY CPX-2 was taken from a car at the Wynnwood Drive Apartments between Wednesday at 9 p.m. and Thursday at 3 a.m.

The owner told police that her neighbor called her because her car door was open.

According to the police report, the owner said the gun was loaded, but whoever took it left the holster it was kept with in the car.

A neighbor told police she had seen two males walking in the parking lot Tuesday night wearing masks and looking into a car with small flashlights.
