Six firefighters were promoted to the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and deputy chief in the LaGrange Fire Department Thursday. Michette Moon and Matt Oubre were promoted to sergeant, Bill Brazeal, Josh Williams and Garrett Brubaker were promoted to lieutenant and Chad Dallas was appointed as the new deputy chief.

LaGrange Fire Deputy Chief Willie Bradfield said Dallas was an easy choice since he was already running a shift after Robert Taylor retired from the position in December. Dallas was promoted to captain in 2017.

“We usually move up from captain to deputy chief, so we decided it was time for him to take that spot,” Bradfield said.

Dallas will be responsible for a shift of 17 or 18 firefighters and will enforce policy procedures. Dallas has served with the LFD for 21 years, but 30 years total counting his time with the West Point Fire Department and the Troup County Fire Department. He said he came to the local fire department for the opportunity to advance.

“It’s a great honor, got a lot of responsibility with it,” Dallas said.

Bradfield said the sergeants are the drivers and are responsible for getting to scene of a fire. Lieutenants are over a station each and are responsible for three personnel.

Public information officer Chris Taylor retired as a lieutenant in December. Bradfield said they have not chosen the next PIO for the department yet, but should know next week.

“We haven’t decided yet who that’s going to be,” Bradfield said.

Bradfield said all of the promotions were well earned.

“They all came up through the ranks also, so they had done the schooling that they need to do, so they [earned] promotions,” Bradfield said. “I know it’s a great accomplishment for them to obtain more responsibility and look to help the future of the department.”
